ABSTRACT

This study aims to analyse the relationship between the city’s political system and urban planning by focusing on the city of Damascus, and how the city itself has helped to prevent people from participating to political life, creating a special kind of physical elements that have prevented citizens from being politically active.

One of the most important reasons for which the researcher chose to carry out this study, is the rupture of the moral bond between her and her city since 2011 (since the revolution) during her participation in the demonstrations to express legitimate demands like any citizen who has the sense of belonging to his country.

Bourhoods and streets have transformed places where the individual has sentimental ties with the entourage in besieged, heartless places that are beating, in enormous prison as if the city had turned against its inhabitants.
